As we navigated to church this morning amidst the snowy roads and slippery corners, all decked up in our beautiful attires to attend the first Sunday of a new year, I couldn’t help but admit church had become a must go for us. It wasn’t even such a big deal driving in bad weather as long as we got there!\u263a\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The truth is, Africans are probably the most religious people on earth, and if you dare think that means they are the most righteous or well-meaning people on earth, you are in for a rude shock!\ud83d\ude2e If you want to find out, just slap one and hope they will turn the other cheek as the bible says\u2026may you survive to tell the story\ud83e\udd28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Don\u2019t get me wrong here, it\u2019s definitely an awesome thing to attend church services. There is no doubt that the sermons over the years have helped nurture and shaped a lot of us into becoming a better person. I can\u2019t tell you the number of times I felt so lifted just by attending the Sunday service, and that reflected positively on my whole week. Well, there have also been times when I felt like beating up someone in the church\ud83d\ude42\u2026Yeah, you kind of get the good, the bad and the ugly\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What should the church be to us?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As we get ready to attend Church this year, let\u2019s evaluate our purpose and intentions\u2026please ensure you answer these questions affirmatively:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\ud83d\udc4d Fellowship<\/strong>: Are we going with the purpose to fellowship (pray, worship, and study the word of God) with other Christians in one accord?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4d Community<\/strong>: Are we going to create an environment that will welcome others with love, and influence the community positively?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4d Communication<\/strong>: Are we going to communicate in a way that will help, encourage, enlighten, strengthen, and develop each other\u2019s faith?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4d Action<\/strong>: Have we been putting into practice the good lessons we have derived from previous attendance?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n The truth is, the church isn\u2019t what it used to be, and these days, some would even rather stay home than fellowship with other Christians. We need to remind ourselves of what the church should be and shouldn\u2019t be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4e The church shouldn\u2019t be where people come looking for solutions to their problems only to encounter greater life battles.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4e The church shouldn\u2019t be a headquarters of gossip and an environment that fosters stigmatization and racism.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4e The church shouldn\u2019t be an avenue to show off your newly<\/em> acquired attires or to oppress those in need.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udc4e You shouldn\u2019t just attend<\/em> the church to<\/em> mark a weekly<\/em> attendance.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n This doesn\u2019t mean you should expect to find perfection in the church, for it’s not meant to be a community of perfect people.
