The thin between old age & insanity

To start with, I want to apologize for using the word ‘insanity’, but I couldn’t think of a more appropriate word for description. I once had the opportunity of assisting in a nursing home years ago, and it was such an eye-opener for me.

First is, it made me see life from another perspective that I’ve never bothered to think about. I worked closely with the aged/elderly. Some were really loving in their old age, while some where very bitter. Some had friends and family who came around to see them and some had no one to come visit them – which is kind of sad.

However, one thing was common to almost all of them, they were losing their minds. The happy ones who had lost their minds to Alzheimer or some other ailment, sang carefree or joyfully all day long, while the bitter ones shouted and screamed all day long. It was such a drama to behold…

Though the usual saying is “as you make your beds, so you lie on it”, this wasn’t applicable to insanity at old age. Some of them did absolutely nothing to be in that state of mind, their only offense was getting old.  It made me realize how lucky I was to still be young and enjoy the good things of life in a sound mind. I began to appreciate things more and became grateful for every little thing.

Here goes my two cents on this topic – do everything to keep your sanity intact while you can. I mean as a young lady or guy, don’t go crazy because of anyone or any situation.  Enjoy your sanity to the fullest!

Given, there are lots of situations in and around you that gives you the right to lose your mind…

Do what makes you happy whenever you can…scratch that… every damn time!

Love, love and love – Love on people, family, friends, they make the world go around. Don’t go being a loner. Love people while you can recognize them, and don’t go losing your mind before you earn the right to lose it!

Cos believe it or not, there is a thing line between old age and insanity!
