A 13-letter word that can cost you the land of gold!

A 13-letter word that can cost you the land of gold!

As children of God who have been saved through Christ Jesus, we are to work towards making heaven. However, we are not going to make heaven by the work of our hands. We will make heaven through the salvation we have received, accepted, and confessed through the Lord Jesus Christ. “For by grace are we saved, not by the works of our hands, lest any should boast”. Ephesians 2:9

So, the truth is, we are all sinners and can only truly be saved by grace. The best of us is not worthy in any way. Even while working out our salvation with trembling, we still manage to sin effortlessly!

This same salvation makes the mercy and forgiveness of God readily available to us when we fall short of the standard God has set for us. Therefore, we are not condemned!

However, as much as we saved by grace and will make heaven despite falling short of God’s standard, there is a one act or sin that can hinder our salvation from working for us.

It is called “unforgiveness”

We have heard of several Christians who died for some hours and came back to life. They shared their experiences of how they almost missed heaven because of unforgiveness if not for another chance to live again. It then got me wondering, WHY?

Why didn’t they miss heaven because of lying, greed, gossiping, and so on?

Here is WHY!

Firstly, the main criteria to ask for God’s forgiveness is that you’ve forgiven those who erred against you. Mathew 6:12; Mark 11:25-26

Secondly, a major prerequisite for God to answer your prayer or accept your gift (praise, sacrifice, offering etc.) is after you have been forgiven. Mark 11:25-26; Matthew 5:23-24

Thirdly, to tap into being “saved by grace” God needs to have forgiven you.

So, it logically goes without much saying:

  • If you do not forgive others, God won’t listen to your prayers
  • If God doesn’t listen to your prayers, He can’t forgive you
  • If God doesn’t forgive you, you remain a sinner
  • If you remain a sinner, you are condemned
  • If you are condemned, you can’t enter heaven

YOU CAN’T CLAIM SALVATION WITHOUT THE FORGIVENSS OF GOD. YOU CAN’T RECEIVE THE FORGIVENESS OF GOD WITHOUT FORGIVING THOSE WHO HAVE OFFENDED YOU!

UNFORGIVENESS BLOCKS THE EARS OF GOD TO OUR PRAYERS. WITHOUT UNFORGIVENESS IN OUR HEARTS, GOD CAN HEAR US AND FORGIVE US OF ALL OUR SINS.

HAVING BEEN FORGIVEN, WE ARE SAVED TO ENTER THE LAND OF GOLD!

A look at this 13-Letter word….

  • Unforgiveness is the inability to forget the offences of others against you
  • Unforgiveness is holding on to the fault of others or their wrongdoing against you
  • Unforgiveness is holding a grudge in your heart despite forgiving with your mouth
  • Unforgiveness is not letting go of malice
  • Unforgiveness is remembering the offence of others with pain in your heart

Let me remind us that Forgiveness is not an easy task. You must be deliberate about it. You need to consciously make the effort to forgive.

A call to action…

  1. Today, I encourage you to pick a pen as you read this and write out the names of those you have stopped speaking with due to an offence, they committed against you.
  2. Ask the Lord for grace to forgive them and confess you have forgiven them
  3. Next, decide in your heart to greet them with a sincere smile the next time you see them.
  4. Quit remembering or recounting their offences (either in details or in summary)

## No one is worth making you miss the land of Gold!

## No sin should hinder you from reaping the reward of your salvation in Christ Jesus!

## They have offended you on earth, why allow them to send you to hell??

## No 13-Letter word should stop you from spending eternity with God!
