We are just very close friends…no strings attached!

So, truly and really, can a guy and a lady be very close friends (besties) with no strings attached?

I came across this question few weeks ago and it got me thinking…It’s one of those questions that will spark a resounding YES and a profounding NO..depending on individual experiences of course.

Truth is, most of these friendships start off without any form of physical attraction or romantic chemistry whatsoever.

I have been opportuned to have few great friends of the opposite sex, and I get the benefit of reviewing some decisions from different angles or point of view…yeah, the good ‘benefit’ not the stinky one! 😀

However, I’m not oblivious of the fact that a lot of things could go wrong with those types of friendship, if not well-managed.

For instance:

  • What could happen on a day when one of you feels really vulnerable..maybe you were dumped and literally needed to cry on your friend’s shoulder?😕
  • What about the possibility that one of you might develop more feelings beyond friendship?😮
  • What could happen when one or both of you are not in any relationship, and you just really feel lonely and need some warmth on one stormy Saturday night. 🙄

It becomes a little bit complicated as most marriage counselors will tell you to marry someone you can be friends with…which means, that person you call a friend might just be the right one for you! Truth is, many marriages have been borne out of close friendships…

Despite many things that could go wrong, there’s still a lot of value in having the opposite sex as a close friend. However, there has to be a mutual understanding, respect and caution. There is a really clear line between being friends and lovers; applying caution will ensure that line doesn’t become blur.

You don’t have any business doing what couples do when you ain’t one..tight hugging, dates, holding of hands, everyday calls, sharing rooms overnight, etc. If you do all that, just save yourselves the heartache and profess love to each other, 🤷🏻‍♀️else, one of you is going to have a heartache when the other person shows up one day engaged!..yep, that’s the way it goes…😎

And hey, for the married, you probably need to apply double caution, else, your friendship could bring upheaval to your haven!
